List of Available Food Assistance Resources in Maine

This list was compiled from links created by many other organizations doing good work around the state of Maine. We offer it here as a resource; we can in no way guarantee that these resources are still operational.

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW AND CONSIDER

(compiled info from impacted people and orgs in the work of meeting people's needs):

1) EBT cards will not be frozen, so if you still have a balance on yours in Nov, you can still use it

2) Applications for SNAP will still be accepted during the shutdown

3)  If you are applying for General Assistance, they have to let you apply! Some towns will try to tell people they aren't eligible without an application. Insist on applying and get a written decision. If they deny you, but you think you are eligible, you can appeal. If you need help, you can call Pine Tree Legal Assistance (207-942-8322) or Maine Equal Justice (207-626-7058 ext. 5). If you have trouble even being allowed to apply, aside from calling PTLA and/or MEJ, there is also a hotline at DHHS: 1-800-442-6003
